The United Nations, through its Academic University for Peace, awarded an honorary doctorate to His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, in a great celebration held at its headquarters in Geneva, in the presence of the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chairman of the International Civil Service Commission, Mr. Jacte, and a group of religious leaders And the European intellectual, political and parliamentary, where the rationale came that this international academic honor for Dr. Al-Issa through Al-Salam University at the United Nations came in appreciation of his outstanding efforts in supporting international diplomacy, promoting friendship and cooperation between peoples, and his effective struggle against hate.
His Excellency Sheikh Al-Issa delivered a speech in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation for this honor that motivates more work in the service of peace, as it came from a highly-regarded university that has made remarkable global contributions to the service of world peace, in addition to that it was established in accordance with an international treaty specifically for this noble purpose.
Dr. Al-Issa noted the great role of the university in the service of peace, benefiting from its international weight.
For his part, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Jacta, delivered a speech praising the widespread appreciation of His Excellency Dr. Al-Issa as a leading international figure for religious and intellectual moderation, and that he continues to work hard to deliver the message of moderate Islam and peaceful coexistence around the world, and is making efforts to educate Muslim minorities and showing his efforts around the world
Mr. Jacta added: “Dr. Al-Issa is a unique figure who led the largest Muslim delegation to visit the Nazi concentration and extermination camp in Germany.
In his role, Dr. Francisco Rojas, President of the United Nations University for Peace, stressed that awarding an honorary doctorate to Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa is a recognition of his individual contributions and humanitarian efforts in the field of peace, conflict resolution and the promotion of harmony.
He pointed out that Al-Salam University, since its establishment, has awarded this honorary degree to a group of distinguished figures, including five former heads of state and others of different nationalities and religious backgrounds.
He added: “Al-Salam University is honored to award an honorary doctorate to Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa, who is widely recognized as the global voice for religious moderation, and for his commitment to educating the whole world about religious values represented in compassion, understanding and cooperation among humankind. Dr. Muhammad Al-Issa was a pioneer in building partnerships between societies, religions and nations.
It is noteworthy that Al-Salam University enjoys a high-regarded international standing, as it was established by a treaty in the United Nations General Assembly in 1980, with a main campus in Costa Rica and offices in Rome, Addis Ababa, New York, Geneva, The Hague, Manila, Beijing and others, and its main mission is to serve humanity with a prestigious international institution in higher education.
