Dozens of tweeters interacted on social media with the global campaign against hatred launched by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim Word League (MWL), Chairman of the Muslim Scholars Association, President of the Association of Islamic Universities, warning of promoters of intimidation against Islam, And the abusive content of peace across different platforms.
His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Muslim Word League (MWL) sent two messages to Facebook and Twitter administration in which he stressed that social media had a significant effect on bringing people closer together, as well as in spreading hatred and intolerance, His Excellency called on the administration of Facebook and Twitter to set new conditions to combat hatred and intolerance and to prohibit posts that deny “the Holocaust”.
Al-Issa noted that Muslims around the world suffer as much as others as they face personal abuse, threats and verbal and physical violence because of what is fuelled by the content posted on the media
He said: Islamophobia is a disease that must not be embraced by these means. Facebook and Twitter are capable of making better efforts and must do so. The Muslim Word League (MWL) had launched a campaign under the Slogan “Reject Hate” to appeal to all people to never allow hate speech against Muslims, as well as followers of different religions.
The Secretary-General invited to join the campaign and participate in it as an expression of rejection of hatred in all its forms, and to contribute to making the world more peaceful and tolerant, Pointing out that “God has commanded us in his book to refrain from controversies that only benefit negative escalation.
Sheikh Al-Issa asserted that “Islam is strong, its power depends on no one’s charity, and the existence of Islam as a God’s message is never shaken by words or others.
Sheikh Al-Issa’s call was widely responded by the tweeters on all means of communication, who interacted with it greatly.
In an article in the Moroccan evening newspaper, Dr. Mahjoub Ben Saeed praised the international campaign launched by the Muslim World League (MWL) calling for a united effort to combat hate speech, which has recently spread alarmingly in view of the devastating threat it poses to social peace and fabric of the world.
He said that: “Hate speech and fake news are widespread and a very serious problem, adding that “Hate speech is the result of a build-up of negative emotions, which requires serious efforts to address, and the principle of constructive dialogue, which is so important.
He said: “Dialogue is also a type of conflict, not with the other but with oneself, because true dialogue requires you to accept the other, accept the other’s legitimacy, and, more importantly, accept that you have been affected by the views of the other party in your conversation”.
