Establishing first West African Scholars Council under MWL umbrella and Senegalese government auspices.
Senegalese President, Macky Sall, congratulated the African Islamic Union (AIU), which has more than 100 million followers, on recently signing an agreement with the Muslim World League (MWL).
His Excellency described – in a telephone call – His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Al-Mahi bin Sheikh Ibrahim Nias, President of the AIU, the agreement as historic, and it stems from the MWL’s first reference for Muslims, and the AIU’s major responsibility to seek the needs of Muslims and help them.
The agreement comes within the framework of the MWL’s endeavor to unify the word of Muslim scholars towards their major issues.
The agreement included several items, most notably: the establishment of the first West African Scholars Council under the MWL’s umbrella and the auspices of the Senegalese government, activating the contents of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Declaration in the educational, religious and cultural fields, and training imams in West Africa, including training them on the contents of the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Declaration, in addition to holding a periodic forum for West African scholars starting in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, and the implementation of specialized programs to serve the Arabic language and its culture.
