Under the generous patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, may Allah protect him. During the blessed month of Ramadan, in the year 1440 AH – 2019 CE, the #MuslimWorldLeague (MWL) brought together more than 1200 Muftis and Muslim scholars representing 27 Islamic sects and schools of thought, hailing from 139 countries. This historic and unprecedented gathering was called upon by the Muslim World League, the global organization leading Islamic efforts, headquartered in the holy city of Makkah. During this meeting, the MWL issued the #MakkahCharter, a constitutional document, the second for the Ummah in terms of historic impact, importance, and influence after the Constitution of Medina which was signed by the Noble Prophet (PBUH).
While celebrating the true values of the Makkah Charter, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Council of Foreign Ministers convened in Niamey, Niger, in 1442 AH – 2020 CE, recommended the Charter to be used as a guiding document in religious, educational and cultural institutes.
The General Secretariat of the OIC highlighted that the Council of Foreign Ministers also commended the wide support the Makkah Charter received across the world. In particular, among religious leaders of different faiths, for the noble message of the Charter that promotes tolerance, moderation, understanding, and mutual cooperation among peoples and nations.
